Peaches in Hogtown
Saturday, August 8, 2009 at 02:32PM Ontario peaches are in season and, damned if I have said this before, but I wait for this moment all year!
Our province produces, in my opinion, the best peaches -- period. Freestone are my favourite. In fact, I rarely eat peaches any other time of year, because generally, they are a disappointment.
With a fresh basket of Ontario peaches in hand, I rushed back home last weekend as my hubby was preparing waffles (yes he can cook too!), so we could have fresh peaches on our waffles, along with some bacon.
The sweet explosion of peaches along with the savoury bite of the bacon is just such an incredible
Pork Tenderloin with Peach and Red Pepper Chutneymedley, that I needed more.
So for dinner, I pulled out all the stops, and created this pork tenderloin, which was butterflied, and seasoned with sage leaves and garlic slices, wrapped in bacon and cooked until medium. I served with a great peach chutney, that anyone can make at home.
The verdict: my stepson declared "I feel rich" when he was presented with this plate of Ontario goodness, served over some bacon fried kale.
Indeed-- we live in a very rich province, even the pork tenderloin I served was Ontario-raised. Good things do grow in Ontario!

I can not argue with your comment that "Ontario produces the best peaches" I am biased, afterall I hail from this province. But since living here in beautiful BC I have to say that if BC doesn't win out on the whole peach debate it comes quite close. I love the summer and not just because of the heat! I love the availability of fresh fruits which makes the hundred mile diet alot easier to swallow. To everything there is a season and by golly if it isn't time to indulge in cherries, apricots and peaches. And let's not forget the abundance of blackberries! I salivate at the thought! I have it in mind to can all this wonderful goodness if only I could stop eating long enough to make something with it! If all I can do this summer is satisfy my need for gloriously sweet, juicy fruits and berries and be forced to dream about them all winter then I already long for next summer!
Shall we call it a tie? LOL!
I must agree that in general BC does have us beat out in the produce department, what with your rainforest-growing conditions.
I look forward to hearing about your canning :)
